Event Introduction

Occasion is an installation that contains a moving image that makes use of light and shadow. The work interprets the moment where perception without thought can cause a sense of vagueness. An unexpected, strange situation can paralyse you before you realise what has happened – as if a safe situation suddenly turns menacing or appears different than it actually is. Perception connects the work to reality, but only comparing a recollection, questioning memory and perception, and conscious thinking can form the actual experience.

Simo Ripatti is a Janakkala-based visual artist whose works seek to subtly and unassumingly elucidate topics that are difficult to put into words. Space and its use are almost without exception the active elements in his works.
