Event Introduction
Illustrations of the Mind is a layered work that transports the experiencer between the real world and the imaginary world built around it. It depicts the power and richness of imagination — something that money cannot buy. The central element of the work, an egg, represents the human mind and imagination. Its minimalist exterior leaves its contents a mystery and makes room for imagination, inviting one to wonder what might be inside this enigmatic package.
The work guides the experiencer through a play of imagination — from the real world to the inner world of the mind and back.
Heli Suoninen & Klas Granqvist
Illustrations of the Mind is the first joint work by light artist Suoninen and sound artist Granqvist. The duo is playful and curious about their surroundings. “With this work, we want to remind people of the truly important and valuable things in life, and to bring playfulness and joy into the midst of everyday life.” The work originated during a residency in the village of Grand Popo in Benin, where the artists were inspired by the rich imagination of the local children.
