Event Introduction

Jenni Nylander (FI) – Morphe

Morphe is a dialogue between matter and light, where ceramics and glass conceal light within them. The artwork also invites the viewer into a dialogue: to stop, observe, and find meanings in the details, and in the relationship between movement and stasis. The work asks to what extent we are part of nature’s vast network and to what extent we are merely its observers. Do we understand the connection that binds all living things together? What does such a connection signify?

The light in the artwork manifests the invisible process, a rhizomatic formation and dissolution of matter. It explores a cycle in which we are an inseparable part of the whole, such as the photosynthesis of plants and organisms, and examines the constant transformation where there are no beginnings or ends, only new forms and the layers brought by time. The artwork invites us to pause at the boundary of light and shadow, in that silent space where the environment breathes us.

Jenni Nylander
Jenni Nylander is a Helsinki-based stage designer and artist. In her works, she fearlessly combines different materials such as clay, ceramics, recycled materials, and light. The works often deal with nature, time and its layers, as well as interaction. Nylander’s work often springs from personal observations, and an important starting point for her work is conceiving the viewer’s role as an active and multi-sensory experiencer. The significance of her work is enhanced by setting complex questions, creating new tools and working methods, and considering multidisciplinarity and inter-artistry. Nylander’s works have been seen at light festivals, performances, films, and exhibitions.
