Alexander Salvesen (FI) – The Last Dance
Event Introduction
and some of us are dancing
‘til the end
without worries of the world
like tomorrow never comes
while All we stand on
is silently crumbling down
time cannot be stopped
In the fall of 2025 we know for certain that the coral reefs will be lost to global heating. The first tipping-point has been crossed. One collapse leads to another and numerous wicked problems with their causality will make life harder also here in Finland.
Now is the last time to wake up. Together.
The Last Dance consists of a 12ch analog large scale dia projection, digital video, light and sound.
The artwork is commissioned by Lux Helsinki.
Sound: Ville Aalto
Alexander Salvesen
Alexander Salvesen is a Finnish-Swedish visual artist who works broadly and without prejudice across different artistic media. Light often plays a central role in his works, which are grounded in the relationships between colors and forms as well as the associations and perceptual experiences they evoke. His art frequently draws from nature and our surrounding socio-political climate, addressing issues such as the ongoing mass extinction, the climate crisis, and humanity’s blind spots. At present, he is particularly interested in the complexity of perception, the puzzling nature of time, and humanity’s obsession with consumption, destruction, and travel in the final ages of turbocharged fossil capitalism.
