Anni Laukka (FI) – May Every Child Be Fed

Image: Otso Kähönen

Event Introduction

The work is made from forks, knives, and spoons that together form the shadow of a mother feeding her child. From hard, everyday objects emerges a soft, tender moment – a reminder that food is more than nourishment; it is care, love, and connection.

For most of us, access to food and sufficient nutrition is something we don’t have to worry about. This shadow sculpture reminds us that children around the world do not share the same opportunities to be fed or cared for. Access to food is even used as a weapon of war, creating artificial famine and suffering.

The shadow falls on the wall of Hietalahti Market Hall, inviting reflection on both the meaning of food and global inequality. The work is a wish and a prayer: that every child may be safe and nourished.

Anni Laukka
Anni Laukka is a Finnish artist exploring the emotional terrain between shadow and light. Her practice engages with socially relevant themes, often using unconventional materials such as toys salvaged from bombed Ukrainian homes or plastic waste washed ashore in Japan. With a background as a kindergarten teacher and mother of three, Laukka is committed to amplifying children’s voices and perspectives, connecting personal experience with universal concerns. In her innovative approach, the history of materials meets the play of light, giving each piece a unique voice and opening conversations about the pressing issues of our time.
