CHIAKI (JP) – Momentum
Event Introduction
Slow down. Step into Momentum.
Momentum is a three-part visual series that invites viewers to pause, stepping away from the noise to reconnect with the present moment. Each piece offers space for reflection as a visual meditation through simple ink drawing compositions.
Momentum 1: Momentum of a Knot
Inspired by the Mizuhiki knot—a traditional Japanese symbol of connection—this piece reflects on how life weaves together through relationships, memories, and experiences. Each drawing represents the flow of connection: continuously woven, tightened, loosened, or tangled over time.
Momentum 2: Wordless Momentum
A composition of spontaneous asemic text drawings that fuse image and text without fixed meaning. The wordless texts become a visual language for open interpretation.
Momentum 3: Momentum of Love
Five love-themed Japanese poems from a 12th-century anthology are reimagined as visual poems through calligraphic ink drawings. Each five-line poem transforms timeless expressions of love into a meditative visual experience—a moment to pause, feel, and reflect.
CHIAKI
Japanese visual artist, calligrapher, designer based in Copenhagen, her work blends traditional Japanese calligraphy with abstract expressionism. Drawing inspiration from words, symbols, and nature as motifs, she uses simple ink strokes and expressive gestures to evoke subtle emotions and uncover hidden meanings within these motifs, transforming the ancient art form into contemporary expressive art form. Having lived abroad for much of her life, her diverse cultural experiences have shaped her artistic perspective. In Denmark, she reconnected to her artistic roots, calligraphy along with Japanese culture through a fresh lens after a long hiatus. This renewed inspiration drives her to explore her medium across various formats from paper to motion graphics and to push the boundaries of this traditional art into the filed of contemporary art. She creates, teaches, and performs calligraphy and her work has been exhibited internationally.
